| WHY BOULDER PREP? | ||||||
Public education in the United States has always been about the opportunity to use the pursuit of knowledge, old and new, to pursue our dreams. In 1997, the founders of Boulder Prep saw an opportunity to create a charter high school that would use alternative and research-based strategies to create an innovative college preparatory program. The school would engage youth who were on the verge of deciding that school and education were not for them. We know that in the 21st Century we must put forward our best efforts to make sure that as many members of the future generation engage education as possible; as a way of making sure their as well as our dreams for a better world can come true. Boulder Preparatory High School encourages and supports students to see the pursuit of education not only as a way to improve their own life, but also as a way to rehabilitate themselves and their environment. |

| OUR MISSION: | ||||||
| The mission of Boulder Preparatory High School is to help transform youth-at-risk into college bound youth-of-promise. BPHS encourages the pursuit of knowledge and education as an intervention for youth. We educate by inspiring in each student an enthusiasm for learning and the self-confidence needed for intellectual, physical, and ethical development. We will not give up on students even when they give up on themselves. Boulder Prep strives to graduate young people ready and eager to meet the challenges of college and adulthood with an appreciation of their responsibilities in the world community. | ||||||

| BRIEF HISTORY: | ||||||
| Boulder Prep was founded by five juvenile justice professionals as a way to help the large percentage of youth entering the Juvenile Justice System who did not have viable educational plans. Many students had been suspended, expelled, or had dropped out of school. In 1996, Boulder Prep started serving 12 students in the Probation conference room at the Justice Center. The school was granted a charter by the Boulder Valley School District in 1997 and grew to 25 students. Enrollment increased by about 20% each year, and the school finally moved into a permanent facility in north Boulder. The school was created to serve primarily expelled, suspended, and adjudicated youth, but our target population has become broader to include any student looking for a smaller, more personalized college preparatory setting. We would like to recognize Andre Adeli, Greg Brown, Magistrate Cole, Roxanne Nice and Ann Williams for being pioneers in alternative education when they created Boulder Prep. | ||||||
