| Headmaster's Report to the Board of Directors April 10, 2006
Personnel: We continue to wear many hats at Boulder Prep, and the unintended consequence of that is that most of what we do does not have the energy and planning behind it that we once had when we were fully funded at the level CDE (Colorado Department of Education) says an at-risk high schools should be. Being down two faculty members is a huge on-going challenge. If we can convince BVSD to restore half the funding we once had from the CDE five-year grant, we will be back at full strength.
Faculty Recruiting : We have a Latino bilingual science teacher waiting for us to give him the opportunity to work at Boulder Prep. All we need is the money to do so.
Admissions: We took in another 10 students this block and continue to serve 100+ students on a block-by-block basis.
Calendar: Graduation is at 11:00 AM , May 19 th , at The Chateaux (sic) in Broomfield . Right now we have over 20 candidates preparing to cross the finish line.
Scholarships: Remember to turn in your scholarship donations to keep your perpetual scholarships on-going. Make the checks out to Boulder Prep and memo: scholarships. If you currently are not sponsoring a scholarship and would like to do so, they are generally $500 or $1000 and each year go to graduating seniors selected by vote of the faculty.
College Credit: Eleven of our graduates are slated to earn a total of 66 college credits before they graduate. Last year we had six graduates earn a total of 39 college credits.
Summary : The ship is moving along well and will continue to do so in the short run. In the long run we are going to need additional staff to do all of the work we know needs to be done to be a highly successful school for at-risk adolescents.
Respectfully submitted,
Bruce A. Blodgett
