GIVING
The Colorado Department of Education estimates the cost of educating one high-risk youth is $10,000 per year compared to $75,000 for incarceration. Unfortunately, the per pupil operating revenue provided by the Boulder Valley School district is only about $6,000. This is 40% short of the needed funding to truly provide for these disenfranchised youth. Colorado is 49th in the nation for education funding and 11% of youth in Boulder County will drop out of school every year. Through the generosity of our donors, we have been able to provide our students with supplies and unique programs at no cost to the families.

We are seeking funds for the following programs:

Direct Instruction
$5000 will provide intensive tutoring for 20 students for 8 weeks to help them reach grade-level proficiency in reading, spelling, and/or math.

Concurrent Enrollment
$2500 will allow 15 students to take a college courses through the University of Colorado at Denver while enrolled at Boulder Preparatory High School. This gives students self-confidence and momentum to continue with college after they graduate.

ACT Incentive Program
$550 will pay for registration fees and test prep materials for 10 students. The ACT Prep class reviews content and strategies to help students develop skills and confidence for the test.

Autobiography Class
$300 will pay for 20 students to go to the book store and choose a biographical piece to read and present on during the term. Concurrently, students write “slices” for their own autobiographies. By reading about someone else's life story and writing their own stories, students work toward overcoming their obstacles and finding success.

Arts Program
$250 will provide materials for one 8 week art class with 15 students. Students have the opportunity to express their creativity through art history, painting, drawing, dance, or video and music production.

Breakfast Program
$200 will provide fruit and breakfast items for 100 students every morning for one month. This ensures that students have adequate nourishment for the day.
